The Owl and the Pussycat – Cat

The Owl and the Pussycat (Pussycat)

…and the Pussycat

The Owl and the Pussy-Cat went to sea
In a beautiful pea-green boat:
They took some honey, and plenty of money
Wrapped up in a five-pound note. – Edward Lear.

This wasn’t originally intended as an illustration for the famous children’s poem by Edward Lear. I have been working on a series of extreme close ups of animals, and this piece went so well with the owl, it was only fitting that they should become a set. Happily, they have remained a set, as they were sold together.

Woodland Peacock Butterfly

Woodland Peacock

Woodland Peacock

It has been a bright, hot summer, here in Wales, resulting in an abundance of these gorgeous Peacock butterflies flitting about the garden and nearby woodland. From a distance, they look like flying jewels, glorious flashes of vivid red with iridescent blue. Get closer, and their magnificence is truly breathtaking.

Gold Banded Forester Butterfly

Gold-banded Forester

Gold-banded Forester

The striking iridescent Gold Banded forester butterfly is native to Eastern and Southern Africa. When I first saw a photograph of one, I didn’t think it was real – it seemed so perfect. I knew I had to paint one, just needed the right setting. The piece of driftwood and rusted iron chain beautifully compliment its colours.
